No Child Left Behind

NCLB

Blackboard & chalk

Arguably the most sweeping federal education law in decades, No Child Left Behind will affect how we teach and how students learn.

  • NCLB was signed into law by President Bush on January 8, 2002.

  • Increased Accountability - States will be required to implement statewide accountability systems covering ALL public schools and students.

  • More Choices for Parents and Students - NCLB significantly increases the choices that are available to parents of students who attend Title I schools that do not meet the state standards.

  • Greater Flexibility for States, School Districts, and Schools - States and schools have more flexibility in the use of Federal funds in exchange for strong accountability for results.

  • Putting Reading First - Every Child must learn to read by the 3rd grade.
